Whenever something new, or scary, or stressful happens to my youngest daughter her first question is always “Did this ever happen to you?” Something about knowing that I went through the same thing—that her feelings are shared—comforts her. I suppose she likes to know that mom was once exactly where she was, and that it’s possible to come through it.
